The program's goal is to prepare students for careers in the environmental and civic professions and for positive action in their own lives.
The Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research was started in the year 1991 for promoting research and studies in environmental science. The department is located in the magnificent Jnana Sahyadri campus surrounded by green landscapes of Bhadra reservoir and Bhadra wildlife sanctuary. The commitment of the department is to prepare the students for their careers in environmental and civic professions. The department awards the degree of Master of Science, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of philosophy. The department has qualified faculty and has organized National Seminars, Outreach activities and Workshops sponsored by CSIR, DBT, State Government and University.
    The Vision and Mission:
The Vision of the Department is to make every effort to become a center of excellence in teaching, research and outreach activity of different areas of environmental science, through various modes to provide solution for local environmental problems, national and global challenges. The department is working with a mission to cultivate creativity, in teaching, learning and research to build environmental knowledge base and to promote quality education and research; develop human resources in environmental and civic professions by providing excellent education, research opportunities and technological know-how.
Education Programmes: M.Sc., M.Phil and Ph.D in Environmental Science
M.Sc., in Environmental Science:The Department offers Master’s degree in Environmental Science. The Duration of the Course is 2 Years (4 semesters of 16 week each) and each semester has semester end examination. The pattern of the Course is Choice Based Credit system, where in I semester, students study two hard core courses and one soft core courses (as a choice) within the Department, while in 2nd and 3rd semester, each student in addition to compulsory hard core coursess assigned to respective semester, and a soft-core paper (by selection in each semester) they must study interdepartmental elective paper by choosing a suitable course from the other Science Departments of the University. Each paper is counted in terms of credit. Beside these, student must complete compulsory course credit from Personality Development programme, Computer Application and Communication skill programmes offered by the University. The performance of the student is continuously evaluated by the faculty through class tests, seminars, group discussions, field trips and assignments.
