Department of Post-Graduate Studies
and Research in Tourism
Administration was established in
the academic year 2005-06 and offers
Master of Tourism Administration (MTA),
a two-year full time, regular P.G
programme in Tourism Studies. This
P.G Programme is a
multi-disciplinary Professional
Programme with a well designed and
updated curriculum focusing on
National and International Travel
and Tourism Management, Foreign
Language, Hotel and Hospitality
Management, Airline Management, Air
Ticketing, Event Management,
Computer Skills, Accounting
Knowledge, Communication Skills,
Personality Development, etc to
mould and trim the students to meet
the standards of the Industry.
Besides the Regular Faculty Members
of the Department, professionals and
experts from Tourism and Allied
Industries are invited to interact
with the students to enable them to
understand the recent trends and
requirements of Travel and Tourism
Industry in the right perspective.
Study Tours, both national and
regional, are conducted to provide
practical exposure on tour packaging
and management to the budding
aspirants of Tourism. More over, one
month on the Job Training and
Dissertation are made compulsory at
second and fourth semester
respectively to ensure practical
exposure to the students. Seminars
and Workshops are conducted
regularly to provide better
opportunities to the students to
discuss and interact among
themselves and with the teachers and
experts. The Department is eagerly
looking for Research Projects in the
field of Tourism as a part of
academic requirement and societal
development, and the students are
given ample opportunities to involve
in such Research programmes.

and career-oriented tourism
professionals to cater to the human
resource requirements of the
industry/society which enable to
tap the enormous tourism potential
of the nation for its overall
socio-economic progress and
prosperity.

country through developing adequate
and appropriate tourism human
resource beyond any kind of
disparities and discrepancies by
imparting quality education and by
providing equal educational
opportunities for socially and
economically backward communities
especially rural settlement.

Importance of
Tourism Education:
Service Sector has given face-lift
by fueling the growth of Indian
Economy. Travel Sector and Tourism
is one of the important sub-sectors
of Service Sector which is one of
the largest contributors to the
Country's GDP. Tourism Industry, due
to the developmental efforts of both
the State and Union Governments, is
gaining momentum in these days. This
is one of the sectors wherein one
can find acute dearth of skilled and
qualified human resource. Keeping
the employment opportunities in the
Travel and Tourism Sector and also
the social responsibility of
supplying the skilled and qualified
human resource for the development
of Tourism in mind, Kuvempu
University has established the
Department of Post-Graduate Studies
and Research in Tourism
Administration from the Academic
year 2005-06. And the University is
making honest attempt to impart the
quality and need-based education and
training. According to the forecast
by the World Travel and Tourism
Council (WTTC), Global Travel and
Tourism will generate 24.8 million
jobs by the year 2010. If Indian
Industry generates the same level of
employment, as the World average,
then a further 25 million jobs would
be generated in India over the next
five years. Tourism Industry, in a
comprehensive manner, comprises of
various allied industries such as
Hotels, Airlines, Travel Agency and
Tourism Operators, Event and
Entertainment Organizations, Cruise
Liners, Car Rental Companies,
Railways etc. All these put together
need a huge number of Trained and
Professional Human Resource.
