The Department of Economics was started in the academic year 1974-75 by the University of Mysore. With the formation of Kuvempu University in 1987, the Department of Economics became one of the oldest Post-Graduate Departments. The department has completed four decades of excellent service to the academic community and is known for its quality training in Economics. Besides regular teaching and research, the faculty members of the department are also involved in training and extension activities. Two major Research Projects sanctioned by the UGC, New Delhi, have been completed by the faculty in the recent past. An array of teaching methods is employed to address the needs of the students who have different learning styles and come from different socio-cultural backgrounds. The faculty at Department of Economics caters to the individualized student’s learning needs and endeavors to create a positive impact on their learning Redefining teaching objectives is influenced by expanding knowledge frontier and its preservation, self – understanding , self-discovery imaginative thinking and developing oral and writing competency. Ideally, a good teaching method shall possess some elements that are conducive to generating strong desire among students to learn. For the benefit of the students the department has arranged lecture Programmes under UGC visiting fellow programme, Guest Lecture series, inviting experts from different universities, have also been arranged in the Department which benefited the students considerably. Lecture programmes have also been arranged under the auspices of planning forum, an academic association of the students and teachers in the Department. The staffs discharge their duties following punctuality and regularity. The Lecture classes in the Department are held regularly. If need be special classes are also being engaged.
