SC/ST Cell

The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Cell has been established to provide special assistance to both students and staff belonging to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. The convener and the members of the cell are from the faculty. The cell sanctions fellowships and scholarships to SC and ST research students and also monitors the implementation of reservation and other policies and measures meant to help persons belonging to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. The Cell also organises special remedial classes and coaching classes for the competitive examinations

In pursuance of its vision, the Kuvempu University of Karnataka, Shivamogga. Organizes teaching programmes to facilitate the development of competent and committed professionals for practical, research and teaching; undertakes research; develops and disseminates knowledge and reaches out to the larger community through extension, at the local, regional, national and international levels.

 
Grievances Redressal and Caste Discrimination

According to UGC-MHRD and University regulations;

  • The Cell concentrating about caste discrimination and any other problems of the SC/ST Students.
  • SC/ST Cell maintains the Compliant book for the students.
  • If any problems, students can be report to the Cell and make a call staff of the SC/ST Cell.

Every Academic year conducting meeting for the effective implementation of policies and programmes of the reservation policy for the SC/ ST students in the University. Advisory Committee has also been constituted as under Chairmanship of Honourable Vice-Chancellor, including officers of the University, Directors from the Social Welfare, Education, Women and Children Welfare department.

The SC/ST Cell was established in the University to co-ordinate with the university authorities in the implementation of the various policies and programmes launched by the Central Government, MHRD, UGC and State Government for the benefit of the SC/ST students.
  • The Cell undertakes the activities to develop awareness among the SC/ST students, especially from the rural areas.
  • The SC/ST Cell is giving wide publicity through circulars to all the faculties and informs the students about the various scholarships; namely, Post-Metric Scholarship, Karnataka Higher Education Special Scholarship, Single Girl Child Scholarship, Meritorious Scholarship, P.G. Women Scholarship, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship, P.G. Scholarship for professional courses, ICMR, CSIR, ICSSR and other Scholarships, and fellowships.
  • The Cell takes due care in establishing the Book Bank and Book Grants for the SC/ST students of the University. The Cell also advices the students to utilize the facilities of the Book Bank and to borrow books depending on availability.
  • The University is providing statistical information periodically and promptly on all aspects to the Government of India and the State Government.
  • The Cell concentrates on accommodation of men and women students in hostels.
  • The SC/ST Cell has taken up the problems of the SC/ST students with the university authorities and have solved some of them amicably.

  • Free browsing center facilities is providing for PG Students, Research Scholars and PDF Scholars.
  • Organizing every year coaching classes for competitive exams like UGC-CSIR/NET/SET/IAS/IPS/IFS/KAS/KES/PDO/Banking exams etc.,
  • During 2018-19 University has received 150 Lakhs Under SCP/TSP Grant. Under this Grant University extended the following facilities to the Research Scholars and Students.
  • Laptop disbursed to 37- SC, 22-ST Research Scholars
  • Travelling allowance, Registration Fees, Best Poster/Presentation award, Best Publication award Financial benefit Sanctioned to the research scholars/students who have attended the National Seminar/Conference at the National Level.
  • Under SCP/TSP grant Competative Examination Books and Departmentwise books have been purchased woth of Rs. 34 lakhs for the benefit of Research scholars/students.
  • 50% of Fees reimbursement factility extended to the students who have the income between Rs. 2.5 lakhs and 10.
  • EBL facility extended to the students
